Eva Acton Stokes is an acclaimed “neo-classical” progressive art rock singer/pianist whose unique music tends to put her in the same conversation as Kate Bush, Queen, and YES, though she clearly draws from everything from disco and new wave to traditional folk and stylized musical theater in her carefully crafted, often elaborately layered compositions.
Over the course of a performance and recording career that began in childhood, Eva has performed and/or recorded with members of CREAM, Toto and Jethro Tull, as well as artist/producers Andre Manga, Terry Wollman, Bill Meyers, Malcolm Bruce, Chris Bemand, Mick Guzauski, David Scheffler, Revis, and Seattle legend and Grammy winner Jack Endino. Her first EP was co-produced by songwriting legend Peter Brown. In the early oughts, Eva was offered a major label deal by Artie Mogull, the man behind the careers of Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul & Mary, Laura Nyro, and Olivia Newton John. What happened is recorded in her hilarious, barely-believable memoir, “Hollywood Bimbo” available at https://www.lulu.com/shop/eva-stokes/hollywoodbimbo.
Many of Eva's early recordings were destroyed in the Los Angeles earthquake in 1994. The work that survived, remixes, demos, and her own self-produced albums and singles can be found on https://www.bandcamp.com/evaactonstokes.
Her ‘pandemic album’ “Syzygy,” released in July 2021, spent several weeks in the top 10 on the International Independent Radio charts. She has been interviewed by Richard Sylvarnes on his podcast “Crookit Dreams.” Listen here: https://www.richardsylvarnes.com/crookit-dreams-eva-acton-stokes.
Her youtube channel is @evaactonstokes. She lives in the Pacific Northwest.
Eva released her first self-made album, The Outer Limits (named after the remote Mojave Desert location) in 2012. The first single, “Pizza Guy,” is a catchy, humorous song, with an equally humorous video, about her tumulteous but long-term relationship with the owner of pizza company Pie for the People NW. The song was picked up and re-mixed by New Zealand's Peter Kearns and was a radio hit in Europe and Asia. She followed this with a reproduced (by David Scheffler) version of that album, called “EvVa,” after which she went on a festival tour with Pie for the People and relocated to the Cascade Mountains east of Seattle. There she wrote and recorded the songs that became “Syzygy” during the pandemic lockdown, which included performances by her old friend Malcolm Bruce and Seattle legend Jack Endino, who also mixed and mastered the album. Upon its release in July 2021, “Syzygy” spent several weeks in the top 10 on the International Independent Radio charts.
Eva has been a guest on numerous pod-casts discussing her work and her eventful, adventurous life. Currently she is performing in Seattle and recording new music with her band, Kali Zsa Zsa.
Current members are award-winning drummer/percussionist/producer TOMMY COOK, drummer PETER HECKEL, former Cirque du Soleil star, touring vocalist with Bobby McFerrin, and world music artist BETH QUIST, bassist/luthier DAVID STERLING, and singer/songwriter KARYN MICHAELSON.
